Cemu emulator for Wii U features and specs news: 4K resolution seen on Wii U titles; release date to come before Switch

Wii U users are currently faced with possible issues of having their consoles wiped away from being recipients of high-definition (HD) titles, following the grand entrance of the Nintendo Switch in the gaming market. Good thing, Nintendo plans to keep the loyalty of Wii U devotees by coming up with a Cemu emulator.

The Cemu emulator is created to give the console players a chance to play the Wii U titles in higher resolutions. The emulator supports the latest 4K resolution that many games are offering right now. This means that owners can experience the same kind of graphical presentation that AAA games are offering for the most recent consoles.

Some of the Wii U titles that are already giving out high-definition output through the Cemu emulator include "Super Mario 3D World," "Mario Kart 8" and "The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD," among others. According to Digital Trends, the "Xenoblade Chronicles X" and "Bayonetta 2" both look good on Wii U and the display output has a closer resemblance to the output on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 (PS4).

"For example, lots of games render the scenery in 720p or lower and then upscale that to 1080p at the end of the frame. Even if the final output is 480p the game would still use 720p as internal resolution because the engine has been tailored towards that specific resolution," explained Exzap, the developer of the Cemu emulator.

It was in 2015 when the Cemu emulator faced issues regarding the display output on the menu screen. Users saw that the emulator had a hard time loading the menu screens, pressuring Exzap to immediately create a fix.

A couple of months later, the Cemu emulator was able to get "Mario Kart 8" running on the console without any problems seen.

The Cemu emulator is set to be released on Jan. 16, after Nintendo announces it next-generation console, The Nintendo Switch.
