'Civilization VI' DLC updates: Mod tools, Steam Workshop still happening, says Firaxis producer
Three months had passed since Sid Meier's "Civilization VI" was launched at the end of October last year, and yet, the video game still has no Steam Workshop integration and official mod tools. Hence, many of the game's fans were beginning to wonder if Firaxis has already forgotten about those added features they once promised.
However, in a recent live stream, Firaxis assured the game's followers that they hadn't forgotten about them at all.
As reported by PCGamesN, a clip posted by Reddit user ConsiderableNames featured Firaxis producer Pete Murray saying: "We've had a lot of questions from the community about the addition of multiplayer teams, Steam workshop, and the mod tools, and I did want to tell you that the team is working on this, and when we have more information to share with you, we will be sure to do so."
Plenty of "Civilization VI" modders have managed to go on without Firaxis's "official" SDK. Nevertheless, the promised toolkit and the Steam integration, once released, are sure to feature plenty of advantages. In theory, modders will gain easier access to the game's functions, convenient packaging and uploading, and a huge user base.
For gamers, Steam Workshop integration also means on-click subscriptions to mods and quicker access to automatic updates.
It is widely known in the gaming community that the lifespan of a game is extended by keeping people engaged through sporadic bursts of DLC. Hence, many hope that the extra time taken by Firaxis to make the toolkit and finish the added features will be worth it, especially since their launch could usher in the arrival of a new DLC.
According to iDigital Times, Firaxis has not officially announced any plans to release a "Civilization 6' DLC expansion yet. Hence, there is still plenty of opportunity for "Civilization 6" in the future to make the gameplay even more exciting than it is now.
"Civilization VI" was one of the best-selling games on Steam last year.
