'Clash of Clans' December 2016 update latest: Supercell teases Winter theme; update 'not ready' yet

Supercell has shared a morsel of information with regard to the highly anticipated "Clash of Clans" December update, which is expected to expand the game in big and exciting ways.

When asked about it on Twitter, the developer said, "There will be a Winter theme this year again ... but it's not ready yet. We'll keep you guys posted closer to the date!"

Supercell usually releases Christmas updates for "Clash of Clans" and it looks like it will be the same for this year. If the rumors are to be believed, it will be a beast of an expansion as well.

Historically, December updates are massive. In fact, the holiday update from last year was regarded as one of the biggest updates ever released for the game.

Supercell came out with an update that added to "Clash of Clans" Town 11, a new hero — Grand Warden — and a brand-new weapon on top of gameplay improvements and much-needed bug fixes.

A week after all this goodness was dropped, Dec. 18, 2015 to be exact, Supercell also released a "Christmas Time" update, which added the Winter theme.

If Supercell is going big again for this year, "Clash of Clans" might see massive upgrades and additions later this month. However, it appears that the studio is looking to keep their plans for it a surprise at the moment.

Interestingly, Supercell explicitly talked about working on a Winter theme rather than a full-on update, which suggests that it is their focus for whatever they plan to release this month.

However, looking at the history of Supercell when it comes to "Clash of Clans" December update, a Winter theme is always released with something else. Whether this will be the case this time or not remains to be seen.

With the consistent reports about Supercell's big plans for "Clash of Clans" this December, there might be more than just a Winter theme to expect.
