Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: Josh Smith should be an option

The defending champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers, are considered as one of the most complete teams in the league.

The Cavaliers have LeBron James who is still one of the best players in the NBA today, along with Kyrie Irving, who had a breakout campaign in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, and Tristan Thompson, who is not afraid to do the dirty work for the team.

However, if there is one thing that could be taken against the Cavaliers, it's their issue concerning the center position.

At the moment, the Cavaliers are relying on small-ball with Thompson playing as an undersized center, but according to Fan Sided, they should entertain the idea of having Josh Smith as a center for the team.

Smith last played for the Houston Rockets in the last NBA regular season and was not re-signed by the team, leaving him as a free option for any team to pick-up.

He may not be the superstar that was initially hoped, but Smith can put up decent numbers as he averages 14.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game in his career.

Now at 30 years old, Smith's career is said to be already on a decline, but the former 17th pick overall in the 2004 draft should still be a decent and cheap pick-up for the Cavaliers who need big men.

Smith is still considered an undersized center but provides enough of a defensive threat to help Thompson out when the Cavaliers play defense.

The fact that the Cavaliers currently do not have a reliable center makes many believe that Smith is going to be a decent pick-up.

Smith may have his quirks as he still believes he is a decent three-point shooter, and his defence may have dipped in the recent years, but when motivated and given the right players to be with, he can be a good role player who can play a lot of minutes at the center position for the defending champions.
