Club Nintendo Releases Final Set Of 118 Reward Games Ahead Of June 2015 Closure
Club Nintendo will shut down on the last day of June and products released after Jan. 20 cannot be registered anymore. However, people can still redeem their accumulated coins and register eligible products.
Nintendo also recently released over 118 games and several other physical rewards. Among the physical rewards that people can redeem with their coins are Mario & Luigi Greeting cards, desktop calendars, playing cards, pouches, t-shirts, puzzles and messenger bags. In addition to this, over 118 games have been made available for download and members can use their rewards, otherwise known as virtual "coins," to redeem them.
Some of the downloadable games and physical rewards in the catalogue include "Mario Tennis," which can be downloaded for 250 coins, and "Super Mario 64," also valued at 250 coins. As for physical rewards, desktop calendars are valued at 400 coins while T-shirts are valued at 700 coins. Among the 118 games listed for download in the rewards catalogue, 42 are for the Wii U, 28 for the Wii while 48 are for Nintendo 3DS.
Nintendo discontinued on Jan. 20 its loyalty program which it launched over six years ago. The only explanation provided was that the company was transitioning to a new loyalty program, details about which would be released sometime later this year.
A major pain point for many users since the announcement of the huge rewards catalogue is that the Club Nintendo site has become very unstable. As a result, many fans have complained of their inability to log on or slow loading of pages. Nintendo has acknowledged these problems, saying that these issues are due to heavy traffic on the website.
Many users also stated that after the catalogue was announced, and they tried to redeem or check out items, they were frequently shown error messages which indicated that either the servers were down or the website was under maintenance.
