Dallas Mavericks trade rumors: Mavs to overhaul team after slow start

To say that the Dallas Mavericks' season has been a disappointment is a gross understatement.

In the early stages of the season, the Mavericks find themselves struggling for wins with a 2-12 record.

Even worse is that they are on a seven-game losing streak and that does not appear to be ending soon as their recent losses have been blowouts. They appear not to have anything to offer other teams at the moment.

The Mavs have some new players that should be helping the team. Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes were taken from the Golden State Warriors to bring their championship experience and hopefully revive the Mavericks' playoff run.

Unfortunately, they have not been able to help and there are now rumors about the team disbanding their current crop of players to rebuild. Talks are linking Bogut and sharp-shooter Wesley Matthews on a trade that would bring Tyreke Evans, Quincy Pondexter and Omer Asik to the Mavs from the New Orleans Pelicans.

It appears that this move is made to give the Mavericks some time to rebuild a team as they try to move on from the Dirk Nowitzki era.

At this time, Nowitzki is playing limited games and the team is unable to move forward with the crop it has. Trading off some of their assets may be a move to open up some money and space for them to get key players in the coming window, or even after Nowitzki finally retires from the game.

Keeping Barnes must be Dallas' key thing here. He is playing excellent individual basketball and averaged 21.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his first season with the Mavericks.

The team should probably start building around Barnes as he is a young star at 24 years old. This should help them in the coming years.
