'Dancing With the Stars' season 23 results news: Ryan Lochte eliminated from competition, will concentrate on wedding
Disgraced Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte has been eliminated from "Dancing With the Stars" ("DWTS") season 23.
Lochte and his dance partner Cheryl Burke were kicked off the reality dancing competition on Monday, Oct. 31. While the pair were victorious in a once-off against Marilu Henner and Derek Hough, their tango performance failed to get a good score.
People caught up with Lochte after his elimination during Monday night's broadcast, and the Olympian revealed that he "knew it was going to happen eventually" and that he doesn't have any regrets about his time on the show.
"The people, the friendships that I've made here — we're pretty much a second family now," Lochte said. "Now I'm saying goodbye, it's sad. I'll be back in two weeks for the finale, though, so I can't say all my goodbyes yet," he added.
The Olympic athlete, who caused an international controversy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the Summer Olympics this year, said that he learned more about himself during the competition, particularly that he can get back up, stay positive, and keep fighting no matter what happens.
Lochte also told People that now that he has more time, he can focus on his upcoming wedding to Playboy model Kayla Rae Reid.
"Now that the show is over for me, I can sit down, take a deep breath and start thinking about the wedding," he said. "That's what we're going to be doing for the next nine months, 10 months, or however long until our wedding date," he continued.
Lochte and Reid got engaged earlier this month. The "DWTS" contestant surprised Reid with a romantic sunset proposal after a private helicopter tour of Los Angeles. News that the two were dating first broke when Reid traveled to Rio to see Lochte during the Olympics. The couple have yet to set a wedding date.
"Dancing With the Stars" season 23 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
