'Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel' DLC news 2016: Reviews say the game is fun but short
"Dark Souls 3" is said to be the last installment in the franchise as Form Software is planning on moving on to new things. "The Ashes of Ariandel" downloadable content (DLC) has just been released, and a lot of fans are already posting their reviews online. Most of them are saying that, though the expansion is fun, it does feel very short.
Kotaku reviewed the game for the PC, and they said the game feels like the traditional "Dark Souls" title with a snowy background. Boss battles are still enjoyable, and each brings a unique element to the fight.
Oddly enough, one complaint was that bonfires in the game are fairly easy to find. The first games in the franchise are known to be difficult because the bonfires are usually scarce and if players died, they would have to repeat the entire process all over again from the last checkpoint.
All in all, it took six to seven hours to completely scour every nook and cranny in the game. The expansion could be revisited because of the new Player vs. Player options in the game, but as of now, the servers are still not that populous when it comes to potential players.
IGN has also made their review, and they said that players have to watch out for the uniqueness of the bosses. The Millwood Knights are able to use the ground to their advantage and they deal very heavy damage.
Meanwhile the wolves, though not threatening at first, are able to gather into huge packs which will have the player surrounded on all sides. IGN also advised that the key to winning the boss battles is to determine the boss' attack pattern early on.
The reviews said that the expansion is definitely enjoyable, but the content is simply too short. The only way to get players returning to Ariandel is their eagerness to play PvP.
"Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel" is now available for all platforms.
