Fans of the smash hit R-rated anti-hero movie "Deadpool" know that its sequel is already in the works. But while "Deadpool 2" has not gotten an official release date yet, it's already creating buzz thanks to some actors who have expressed their desire to play the fan-favorite mutant character, Cable, whose appearance in the sequel was confirmed in the "Deadpool" post-credits scene.

Following the footsteps of actors Dolph Lundgren and Stephen Lang, "Hellboy" star Ron Perlman has openly shared his interest in playing Cable, the time-traveling son of Scott Summers aka Cyclops and a clone of Jean Grey from the Marvel universe. The actor even seems to be actively campaigning for the role, as evident in his recent Facebook posts.

Two of his Cable-related posts show side by side photos of himself and the comic book character, apparently to emphasize their resemblance in the looks department, particularly the white hair.

"Or hair. I'm the only one with Cable's friggin HAIR!" he captioned one post.

The "Sons of Anarchy" actor believes that more than his desire to play Cable, the character is actually the one who should be wanting to play him.

"Actually, now that I think about it, Cable should be wanting to f---ing play ME!" he wrote in his latest Facebook post, which quickly garnered thousands of "likes" from his fans. Since his open declaration of wanting to play Cable, the actor has received overwhelming support and positive reactions from "Deadpool" fans, making him a very strong candidate for the coveted role.

So far, there have been no confirmed details yet from the "Deadpool" movie creators regarding "Deadpool 2" including the casting of Cable or other new characters. It has only been reported that Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as the anti-hero "The Merc with a Mouth," and director Tim Miller will be back to helm the sequel.

In an interview with Collider, Miller shared that the writers are currently working on the script for "Deadpool 2," which explains why they could not talk about casting and other details just yet. The filmmaker said that until they get their hands on the script, he won't know what kind of Cable they will have as the script informs the character. Given that there have been various kinds of approaches to the comic book character, Miller said they could only proceed once they know which approach they would adapt for the character's movie counterpart.
