'Deadpool 2' release date, news: Film will not have a big budget; Ryan Reynolds shares how he developed titular character's movie version
"Deadpool 2" is already in the works, and it has been confirmed that it won't have a big budget for production. Meanwhile, lead actor Ryan Reynolds shares how he developed the role of Deadpool, also known as ex-military man Wade Wilson, for the movie.
Directed by Tim Miller, "Deadpool" is an R-rated Marvel superhero movie featuring Reynolds as Wade Wilson and his origin story of turning into the Merc with a Mouth. The movie was such a hit that it was confirmed for a sequel only a few days after its premiere in February 2016.
In a previous interview with Collider, "Deadpool" writers Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick shared that the first film didn't have a big budget and so will the sequel.
"We don't want $150 million to go make the next movie, that's not 'Deadpool.' 'Deadpool' doesn't lift cities up into the air or battle aliens coming down to earth, that's just not 'Deadpool.' So we're happy in that little small budget range that they have us in," Wernick explained.
Even Reynolds shared the film writers sentiments. In an interview with Variety, Reynolds said that he's more comfortable doing mid-range movies because there isn't a "gigantic overhead hanging over you."
Meanwhile, Reynolds shared that he has always wanted to play Deadpool and that he saw the superhero as very feminine.
"When 'Deadpool' came along it was a great relief — it was a role I felt we could get right," Reynolds said.
Reynolds added that Deadpool seems to be an exception to superhero norms, and that includes the possibility of having a same-sex pairing for his next film. The actor is not worried about alienating audiences because the film has already been banned in some countries, such as China.
The actor shared that he worked on the Deadpool character for many sleepless nights, trying to improve the script and add more jokes to develop the character. Reynolds is already attached to the character ever since he saw the comics, describing the hero as his splitting image. He said that he would love to play Deadpool as long as possible.
The production for the sequel is set to begin this 2017. "Deadpool 2" is expected to premiere in 2018.
