'Destiny: Rise of Iron' release date news: Weapon upgrades via shards discovered as DLC releases today
"Destiny: Rise of Iron," the much-awaited downloadable content (DLC) for the first person shooter, will be available today, Sept. 20 at 2 a.m. PT or 5 a.m. ET.
The content, which serves as the fourth expansion pack for the game, brings players to The Plaguelands, where they will learn the story of the Iron Lords.
In this snow-blanketed Russian locale, "Destiny" players will be tasked to battle the Fallen Devil Splicers, defeat the threat SIVA, and ultimately become one of the Iron Lords.
"Destiny: Rise of Iron" introduces a new campaign and additional multiplayer content that should keep players interested and busy. Prior to its release, however, more exciting details have come up.
Players who datamined the latest update on the game revealed that shards will somehow factor in upgrading the new Wrath of the Machine raid weapons to be introduced in the DLC.
As per GameRant, the shards in "Destiny: Rise of Iron" come in the form of SIVA Key Fragments, which appear to be a mix of Ascendant/Radiant shards as well as Moldering Shards.
It was also revealed that 10 of these fragments will form a SIVA Cache Key, which gives players the access to SIVA Caches in the Wrath of the Machine raid.
There's no way of knowing for sure if this will be possible in "Destiny: Rise of Iron," but luckily for fans, it won't be long before they get the chance to confirm that.
The DLC will be priced at $30, but those who are planning to get into the game itself with this new content can for the "Destiny: The Collection" instead, which will be priced at $60.
Here, players will get the base game and all expansions released for it, which includes The Dark Below released December 2014, and last year's releases namely "House of Wolves" and "The Taken King."
Fans can also purchase the "Destiny: Rise of Iron" soundtrack from the Bungie Store for $7. Doing so will grant them an exclusive in-game emblem.
