'Devious Maids' season 5 news, updates: Has the show been axed? Low season 4 ratings reason for cancellation?
It has been a week since "Devious Maids" season 4 went off the air, but there is still no word from its home network regarding its renewal for a fifth season.
There are rumors that Lifetime isn't too keen on taking up the series for a fifth run, considering the poor ratings that the just-concluded season garnered. Movie News Guide noted that the show's ratings have been continuously dropping, and not even the big reveal during the season 4 finale episode was enough to pull ratings up.
The finale episode, which was titled "Grime and Punishment," finally revealed the identity of Peri's (Mariana Klaveno) killer. Peri was murdered during the season's second episode. The killer's identity was the subject of season 4's wild guessing game, along with several other loose ends that were left hanging at the end of the episode even after the one-year time jump. Fans are still hoping the show will come back for a fifth season.
Speaking to TV Line after the show's season 4 finale, executive producer Sabrina Wind gave a rundown of things fans could expect should the series be extended for another run. She admitted that she hasn't received any updates from Lifetime, but she dished out on some juicy stuff that season 5 will tackle, if ever.
She said Dani's (Sol Rodriguez) father will figure into Carmen's (Roselyn Sanchez) life once again. Fans will also find out what happened to Marisol (Ana Ortiz) who might have been kidnapped at the end of the season finale.
"Devious Maids" debuted with a bang, but its ratings have seen a continuous decline over the past four seasons. Season 3 ratings were still manageable with 0.46 or 1.36 million viewers in the 18–49 demographic, according to The Nielsen Company, as reported by TV Series Finale. The ratings for season 4 were more dismal, with an average of 0.30 or roughly 860,000 viewership, based on a report from the same research firm via Zap2It's TV by the Numbers.
This significant dip in ratings is, apparently, the reason why Lifetime is hesitant to give "Devious Maids" season 5 the green light.
Watch out for more updates regarding the fate of the Lifetime drama.
