It looks like a reboot of "Dirty Dancing" is finally happening.

After putting the project on hold for over two years, Lionsgate has finally decided to revive the 1987 American romantic drama film.

But in an exclusive report, Showbiz 411 said it will remake the 80s classic movie made for TV with a possible new series attached to it.

Showbiz 411 said the TV adaptation will be produced by Allison Shearmur and writer Jessica Sharzer. Shearmur is the former head of productions for Lionsgate TV while Sharzer worked on "The L Word" and "American Horror Story."

Sharzaer's last two projects were similar to the feel of "Dirty Dancing."

Production of the new made-for-TV movie is expected to return to the Lake Lure area of North Carolina, where the original movie was also filmed.

The Wilmywood Daily reported that filming could begin as early as April 6 and run through May 28 in the Ashville area, with production offices opening in March.

"The one person I didn't hear mentioned was Eleanor Bergstein, who wrote the original "Dirty Dancing" based on her own life," a Showbiz 411 reviewer said.

The reviewer noted how important it is to go back to the original writer or source material when reviving a beloved project. If this is not done, "you ensure disaster," the reviewer said, adding: "Witness the remake of 'The Heartbreak Kid' in which new people ignored Elaine May and Neil Simon, and turned one of the great comic films ever into garbage."

"Or how about "Get Smart," in which those new people never bothered to speak to Mel Books or Buck Henry," the reviewer went on.

Lionsgate is the home of "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games."
