'Doctor Strange' release date news, updates: Kevin Feige explains why Baron Mordo is not a villain, teases Dormammu; new trailer released

This November will mark the coming of the second movie in Marvel Studios' phase 3 lineup, "Doctor Strange." The movie stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo. Some fans may be confused because so far, the trailers have portrayed Mordo as Strange's ally, but in the comics, he is the Sorcerer Supreme's nemesis. Marvel President Kevin Feige talks about the liberties that the movie is taking and how the movie plans to portray the character this time around.

In an on-set interview with Slash Film, Feige said, "[Mordo] is Strange's advocate in the beginning of the movie. The Ancient One doesn't necessarily see the potential in Strange that Mordo does, and Mordo is the one who talks the Ancient One into allowing him in."

Feige then goes on to say that Mordo in this film will be Strange's partner and mentor. The production wanted to stray far from the comics' perception of Mordo in order to surprise audiences who might think they have the movie figured out from the get go.

If the movie ends with Mordo staying a good guy, it would be very interesting to see where his character goes in the sequel, and his betrayal would be all the more impactful.

Marvel movies, though successful, have always fallen short on the villain department. Aside from Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the franchise has not really made a villain that managed to last longer than one movie. The turn of Mordo from ally to enemy would be a fresh take that Marvel fans have never seen before.

Speaking of villains, Feige has also confirmed the Dark Dimension and teases Dormammu, one of Strange's most famous villains." [there is the] Dark Dimension, where Dormammu inhabits," Feige shared, adding, "There are dimensions that are so mind-bending that you can barely perceive them."

In other news, a new trailer has been released and it showcases new visuals and a humorous interaction between Doctor Strange and the villain Kaecilius (Mads Mikkelsen).

"Doctor Strange" will hit theaters on Nov. 4.
