Doom 2016 DLC news updates 2016: 'Unto the Evil' expansion brings three new maps
Game publisher Bethesda Softworks has just released the downloadable content (DLC) titled "Unto the Evil," the first of "Doom 2016's" three planned expansion packs for PC, Playstation 4, and XboxOne users.
As reported by IGN, the first DLC brings three new maps, a new playable character, weapons, items, and additional options that allow players to customize their gameplay with new hack modules, taunts, as well as new patterns and colors.
The newly added multiplayer maps are Cataclysm, Offering, and Ritual, which fans of the franchise reboot can play across various game modes like Clan Arena, deathmatch, domination, freeze tag, and warpath. Players can also take control of a new Summoner-like demon called the Harvester.
The DLC launch also brings new equipment add-ons to every player's arsenal such as the Kinetic Mine that blasts approaching enemies. Another weapon added in the recent expansion release is the UAC EMG Pistol — this weapon compensates for its weak damage with an unlimited supply of ammunition.
Also unveiled alongside the first DLC title launch is the new PartyPlay feature — a nice treat for diehard Doom fans who often hook up with friends to play the game. This feature unlocks restrictions to the exclusive maps in the expansion to non-DLC owners when they play with a friend who has access to the maps.
So far, the "Unto the Evil" DLC roll-out is mostly about multiplayer features. Fans hope that the next DLC launches will have features dedicated to the single-player option. Players can access the new expansion pack if they purchase the Season Pass or they can buy the content separately for $14.99. Meanwhile, there is an ongoing 50 percent off promo for full-game purchases made via Steam and the Xbox Games Store, VG247 reported.
In another related development, sales figures from Steam Spy revealed that over a million (1,036,534 to be exact) PC copies of Doom 2016 have been sold since its release three months ago. The latest iteration is a reboot of the 1993 cult classic first-person-shooter game. The franchise's newest title has received favorable reviews from critics and fans alike for its masterful and optimized rendition of the game on PC featuring spectacular tweaks.
