'Dragon Ball Super' news: English-dubbed version of the animated series coming to Toonami in January

International fans of the ongoing "Dragon Ball" narrative — "Dragon Ball Super" — has a good thing waiting for them when the new year breaks as its English version will finally grace North American television in January.

Adult Swim, who will be bringing in the rights to the United States recently announced that the animated series will debut via the network's popular Toonami block starting Jan. 7 and it will continue to air every Saturday for the rest of its first season, which has 26 episodes. Interestingly, "Dragon Ball Super" also takes over two slots for its designated day having an 8 p.m. ET primetime schedule and then a rerun at 11:30 p.m. ET for its encore. In light of this new development, a teaser for the upcoming English dubbed version of the series has also been rolled out.

In collaboration with Toei Animation Inc., Funimation Entertainment will be mainly focusing on two story arcs in "Battle of Gods" and "Resurrection 'F'," both of which having been standalone films before they were brought in in "Dragon Ball Super" and tied up in a cohesive way to serve a bigger narrative.

A lot of excitement and clamor are clouding the animated series even when it first arrived on local Japanese airwaves in 2015 as it is the first new storyline in the lore's 18 years of existence. Its main backdrop is set after the downfall of Majin Boo and when Earth has restored its peace. Protagonist Son Goku with his family and friends have returned to living normal lives until a brand-new threat in the form of Beerus, dubbed the God of Destruction, emerges.

The international voice actor cast includes some of those who have already worked in previous iterations of the "Dragon Ball" lore. Seán Schemmel will be playing Goku and Christopher R. Sabat will be taking the role of Vegeta. Jason Douglas, Ian Sinclair and Sonny Strait, meanwhile, will be working on Beerus, Whis and Krillin, respectively.
