'Elder Scrolls 6' release date: Game not Bethesda's focus right now and won't be for a while
Time and again, Bethesda Game Studios has said that "Elder Scrolls 6" will not arrive anytime soon and has vowed to be silent about it.
Thankfully, the studio's director Todd Howard has provided fans an insight about what they are in for with regards to the game in an interview with Glixel.
"It's not what you would call a big, active project right now. There are some other ones that we have going. We know it's important to our fans, and we need to be careful about setting expectations," Howard said.
"Elder Scrolls 6" is not in active development as Bethesda is looking to release two big games first before getting to work on the "Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" sequel.
"It's certainly a game that we'll be making one day. I could sit here and explain to you exactly what we want it to be," he added.
"Elder Scrolls 6" was confirmed at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2016. At the event, Bethesda emphasized that it will be a long wait before the game even goes into the development phase.
However, the studio already has a clear, not to mention grand vision on what the game will look like. Howard said when it was first announced that it "is going to take a lot of time [considering] what we have in mind for that game."
"When you think about, what is the future of that kind of game, we have a pretty good idea of what it would be, and it's just going to take technology and time that, really, we don't have necessarily right now," he explained.
The two games that Bethesda will make before "Elder Scrolls 6" will be the size of a "Fallout" or "Elder Scrolls" game, which means it will take a while to complete those.
With that said, it will take a long while before "Elder Scrolls 6" sees the light of day. Bethesda vice president for marketing and public relations Pete Hines has already said that they will not talk about the game until it is in active development or is ready to come out.
For now, "Skyrim Special Edition" should help fans get their "Elder Scrolls" fix as they wait for the new iteration.
