Empire Season 2 News, Spoilers: Spike Lee Directing 1 Episode with Oprah and Common in Guest Roles
"Empire" is an American musical drama television series which debuted on Fox on January 7, 2015. Initially compared to "Glee", "Empire" centers around a hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment, and the drama among the members of the founders' family as they fight for control of the company. The show was created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong and stars Terence Howard and Taraji Henson. The show was renewed for a second season on January 17, 2015.
Since its debut, the show has become an undisputed hit, growing its audience every week with the 9th episode netting 14.3 million viewers and a staggering 5.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
As excitement grows for its season finale episode, another area of great speculation is what will happen in Season 2. Season co-creators Strong and Daniel and Fox President Madden recently spoke to The Hollywood Reports and they said some gave very interesting clues as to what to expect in Season 2.
In terms of timing, Emipre Season 2 may come back even before the end of 2015. There is also indication that this time around, there will be more episodes than the 12 that Season 1 had, however, because of the nature of the show's storytelling and original music, we can't expect a full 22-espisode season.
Daniels revealed that Spike Lee has sent feelers to direct an episode and another even bigger name is being targeted to do a guest starring role and it's none other than Oprah Winfrey! Daniel collaborated with Winfrey on "The Butler". On March 12, a few days later, Daniel confirmed that Winfrey will indeed be appearing in Season 2 of Empire. Another name that has been recently confirmed for Season 2 is rapper Common, who recently won an Oscar with Joh Legend for their "Selma" song "Glory". He also worked with Winfrey in "Selma".
Empire Season 1 has not yet ended but Season 2 is shaping up to be a very interesting one indeed!
