"Fargo" adds a familiar face from another Noah Hawley series for its upcoming third season.

Linklater has been tapped to join the drama for a recurring role. The "Legion" actor will play Larue Dollars, an IRS agent who doesn't tolerate cheaters. Since he lacks any sort of moral scale, he considers a small cheater to be as bad as an experienced criminal.

The actor's most recent TV stint marks the second time he'll be working with "Fargo" showrunner Hawley. Linklater has a major role in Hawley's "X-Men" drama titled "Legion," which will air in February. His small screen acting credits include roles in "The Good Wife," "The Crazy Ones," "The New Adventures of Old Christine," and "The Newsroom."

Season 2 centered on the U.S. during a time of big change as capitalism turns to into a religion. Viewers saw the crime syndicates' rise to power after Reagan's election. When the series returns for season 3, "Fargo" will focus on the contemporary society and how technology can unite and divide people. Compared to the first season that was set during a vague time period, the next season will be more in the present.

During the 2017 TCA winter press tour, executive producer Warren Littlefield met with reporters to share details about the new season. Littlefield was asked about possible appearances from season 1 actors, and he confirmed that connections to past installments will be limited.

"It's a big region," he explained. "I think the important thing about year three is intimacy. We're a smaller cast. And it allows us to go deeper with each of these characters. Noah does not want to repeat himself... We will have a kiss to Season 1 that we think is appropriate because we're doing a different film each year. But yes, they are related geographically and [there are] some thematic touches," he added.

The third season of "Fargo" premieres in April 2017 on FX. An official release date has not been announced yet.
