"Fargo" has been in hiatus for more than a year now but fans will be pleased to know that season 3 of the black comedy-crime drama anthology series is beginning to take shape as FX has enlisted several actors to round out the cast for the upcoming season.

"Harry Potter" alum David Thewlis will be joining "Fargo" season 3 in a series regular role. According to Entertainment Weekly, Thewlis will play V.M. Vargas who is described as "a mysterious loner and true capitalist who delivers Emmit (Ewan McGregor), the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, the bad news that he has just become partners with his employers, whose business interests lay outside the law."

Just a day after Thewlis' casting, it was announced that Michael Stuhlbarg, Scoot McNairy, Shea Whigham, Karan Soni, Fred Melamed and Thomas Mann have also been added to the roster.

Stuhlbarg will play Sy Feltz, Emmit's right-hand man. McNairy will portray Maurice LeFay, a stoner with a criminal past, while Whigham will play Moe Dammick who is the chief of police at Meeker County. Soni has been cast as Dr. Homer Gilruth alongside Melamed as Howard Zimmerman and Mann as an award-winning science fiction author, Thaddeus Mobley.

The recently enlisted actors will join McGregor, who will be playing dual roles as Emmit and Ray Stussy; Carrie Coon in the lead female role of Gloria Burgle, the chief of police in Edna Valley; and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as parolee Nikki Swango.

While season 3 will be set in 2010, a few years after the events of season 1, no actors from the first installment are expected to reprise their roles. However, it's possible that the events of the upcoming season will somehow tie into what happened in season 1.

Series creator Noah Hawley is once again expected to helm the critically acclaimed television series.

Season 3 of "Fargo" will begin production in January 2017 and is expected to premiere on FX in spring 2017.
