'Flip or Flop' divorce news: HGTV remodeling show's ratings soar following Tarek and Christina El Moussa's separation
Following Christina and Tarek El Moussa's separation, "Flip or Flop's" ratings have been nowhere near a flop.
HGTV's breakout remodeling show "Flip or Flop" is currently dominating the cable TV ratings, possibly because of the stars' Christina and Tarek El Moussa's highly publicized divorce. According to TMZ, the program's latest episode scored over 2 million viewers, eclipsing all the other shows on Thursday's cable lineup. The reality series outranked TNT's double slate of the New York Knicks vs. the Washington Wizards (1.4 million viewers), as well as Los Angeles Clippers game vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves (1.2 million viewers).
The estranged couple announced their separation in December after news broke out that Tarek was brandishing a gun in their house. While no charges were filed against him, details about the duo's rocky relationship came to light. The network has yet to confirm whether the show would return after the stars' contracts expire or not. It is believed that if the series continues, the El Moussas will possibly be filming as a divorced couple.
Tarek and Christina tied the knot in 2009 and they have two children: a one-year-old son named Brayden and a six-year-old daughter Taylor. Reports say that Tarek filed for divorce on Jan. 10, and he is requesting joint custody of their kids, along with spousal support from Christina.
Tarek had been previously linked to the family's young nanny, while Christina is now in a relationship with Gary Anderson, the family's contractor. Although their marriage already ended, the reality stars said in a statement that they are "committed" to their kids and to being the best parents they could be. Christina and Tarek also mentioned that they are more than willing to "work through this process civilly and cooperatively," presumably in an effort to keep their show on the air.
Earlier this month, the reality stars revealed that a third party was not the cause of their separation, saying: "Neither of us was involved in a romantic relationship with any third party prior to our separation, or believes the other was."
