Fujifilm GFX 50S release date, specs, price news: medium-format mirrorless camera available in February for $6,499

Fujifilm recently introduced the GFX 50S, a premium medium-format mirrorless camera that is said to deliver the highest-quality images ever seen in a Fujifilm product. It is a professional camera that is flexible to suit the needs of photographers whether they are inside the studio shooting portraits or on location shooting sports or landscapes.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S features a 51.4-megapixel (MP) 43.8 mm x 32.9 mm medium-format complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) sensor with the X-Processor Pro image processing engine. The camera is able to deliver images with a high level of sharpness, broad dynamic range and accurate tone reproduction. From the captured photographs, one will be able to see precise details, different textures, 3D feeling and even the atmosphere of the setting.

The camera also features a 117-point contrast-detect autofocus system, Film Simulation modes and is able to record full high-definition (HD) videos at 30 frames per second (fps).

Fujifilm has given the GFX 50S a premium design made from magnesium alloy with a robust body that is dust and weather resistant. It continues to operate even at the harshest shooting conditions and in temperatures as cold as minus 10 degrees Celsius.

Despite its high-powered components, the GFX 50S weighs 825 grams, which is comparable to other digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras. It is easy to hold due to an ergonomic grip shape. There are also two SD card slots.

The GFX 50S also features a 3.2-inch, 2.36 million-dot dual-tilt LCD display and a 0.5-inch 3.69 million-dot organic light-emitting diode (OLED) viewfinder that can tilt upward by 90 degrees or left or right by 45 degrees. On the top of the camera, there is a 1.28-inch monitor that displays shooting settings.

The Fujifilm GFX 50S is slated to arrive in late February for $6,499. It will initially be available with three interchangeable lenses: the GF 63 mm f/2.8 R WR ($1,499.95), GF 32-64mm f/4 R LM WR ($2,299.95) and the GF 120mm f/4 R LM OIS WR Macro ($2,699.96). Additional lenses are expected to arrive at the end of the year.
