The Galaxy Note 4 has been ranked by many reviewers as the best phablet of 2014. It comes with terrific improvements when compared to the older Galaxy Note 3, which nevertheless remains a favorite among users who want a great phablet at a bargain.
Design
The Note 3 features a plastic frame with a back panel also made from the same material plus a leather finish. Its edges have better curves than the Note 4. As for the Note 4, it has a metal frame and a metal rim around its edge. Its back panel is made of plastic with a soft leather finish. Both devices come with the S Pen stylus. However, the Note 4's stylus has been improved and it functions almost like a real pen.
Display
The Note 3 has a similar sized display when compared to the Note 4. However, the devices differ in terms of their pixel density. The Note 4 has a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and a density of 515 pixels per inch, while the Note 3 has a Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels and a density of 386 pixels per inch.
Platform
The operating system on the Note 3 is Android Jelly Bean but it can be upgraded to Lollipop. The Note 4 ships with Android KitKat and similarly can be upgraded to Lollipop. As for the Note 3, it has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, coupled with a quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and Adreno 330 GPU. The Note 4 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset, coupled with a quad-core 2.7 GHz Krait 450 CPU and Adreno 420 GPU.
Memory
The memory slot on the Note 4 can be used to add 128 GB of external storage while the Note 3 has a slot which can be used to add up to 64 GB. However, both devices come with 3 GB of RAM.
Price
Since the Galaxy Note 3 is an older device, it is priced at $149 with a two-year contract, while the Note 4 is priced at $299 with a similar contract.
