Six months before Samsung is expected to launch its Galaxy Note 5 phablet, speculations on the design and specs of the device have been flying all around.

One unconfirmed report said the Note 5 will have a dual curved screen similar to the Galaxy S6 Edge.

However, analysts have pointed out that the single curved screen on the Note Edge has more functionality compared to the dual curved screen on the S6 Edge. Hence, they say Samsung may decide to create Note 5 Edge with three screens, one main and two independent curved screens.

There are also speculations that Samsung may create two editions of the Note 5 – a regular one with bezels and the other with the edge variant.

Samsung will reportedly bring a significant boost in display quality in the Note 5. This could result in a first-of-a-kind 4K smartphone. 4K, which is short for 4K resolution, refers to a device or content having horizontal resolution on the order of 4,000 pixels. So far, this display exists only in the fields of digital television and digital cinematography.

The display on the Note 5 will reportedly be bigger at 5.89 inches, with a resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels and a density of 748 ppi.

As for the curved edge edition of the phablet, this is rumored to measure 5.78 inches with a density of 762 pixels per inch.

This improved display is now possible because Samsung has created a new "diamond pixel" matrix arrangement for pixels. The Korean tech giant is due to start producing AMOLED screens with this new technology in August this year.

Coming to design, it is possible that Samsung will opt to give up the plastic/ faux leather build of previous devices in the Note range but retain the metal frame and encase the Note 5 with Gorilla Glass just like what it did on the Galaxy S6 range.

Coming to its processor, Samsung appears happy with its decision to use the Exynos 7420 chipset on the Galaxy S6 and could also use it on the Note 5.
