HBO is heavily promoting the fifth season of "Game of Thrones" and released two trailers recently. The first trailer was screened during Apple's "Spring Forward" event and the next came out soon after. The trailer at the Apple event was special as it heralded HBO's arrival to Apple TV.

The trailer also confirmed rumors that the upcoming season is going to diverge in many ways from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series of fantasy novels, from which the TV series is based.

The major reveal in the trailer was how Sansa (Sophie Turner) would undergo changes in the new season. While the fourth season saw her dyeing her hair and dressing in dark clothes, the trailer showed her heading to Winterfell with a number of guards from House Arryn in tow. One particular scene showed her walking through the crypts in Winterfell where the dead are buried with a candle in her hands. As per the trailer, it seems that Littlefinger (Aidan Gillen) will also accompany Sansa to Winterfell.

This will be a major diversion from the story in the books as Sansa is still in the Vale and never made it to Winterfell in Martin's fifth book "A Dance With Dragons." With this departure, it seems that Sansa will get to meet Theon (Alfie Allen) and could even end up being married to Ramsay (Iwan Rheon) just like Jeyne Poole did in the fifth book.

The show has been known for mashing several characters and their actions together. Vanity Fair said Sansa could get to play the roles of Jeyne and Wyman Manderly, who in the book cooks several Frey men into pies which are served at Ramsay's wedding.

As for the other scenes that are different from the books, Melissandre (Carice van Houten) appears hell bent on burning royal blood and may want to sacrifice Shireen (Tara Fitzgerald), the daughter of Stannis (Stephen Dillane). But Jon (Kit Harington) may be able to stop it.

Finally, Loras (Finn Jones) was shown in trouble and it appears that he will also stand trial after Cersei (Lena Headey) accuses him and Margery (Natalie Dormer) of having an incestuous relationship.

As for the show, HBO recently announced that it will be simulcast around the world in 170 countries and come to HBO Go on the PlayStation console.

The new season begins on Sunday, April 12 at 9 p.m. ET, with the premiere airing across HBO branded networks including HBO Asia, HBO Canada, HBO Europe, HBO Latin America, HBO Netherlands and HBO Nordic
