"Game of Thrones" season 7 has just cast a "significant" character for the upcoming season, and he will be played by "Harry Potter" veteran Jim Broadbent.

The report comes from Entertainment Weekly, and not a lot of details have been revealed about the character. All that's known officially about Broadbent's character is that he will play an important role in the next season.

Fans have been wildly speculating about the role that Broadbent will play in season 7. The best guess would be that the Oscar-winning actor will play one of the maesters that Samwell Tarly (John Bradley-West) will be studying under in the Citadel — Archmaester Marwyn, also known as Marwyn the Mage.

Then again, it's possible that Broadbent could be playing an entirely new character, as the TV series has already surpassed the materials in the books. It's also no secret that the TV series has been taking a few liberties from its source material.

The show has not been shy with casting veteran actors for significant roles. Sean Bean was probably the most well-known actor when the first season came out, but after the span of six seasons, the show has had actors like Jonathan Pryce, Max Von Sydow, and Ian McShane included in their roster.

Broadbent is also not the first actor from the "Harry Potter" franchise to cross over to "Game of Thrones." Osha, the wildling that the Starks took into their household, is played by Natalia Tena, who plays Order of the Phoenix member Nymphadora Tonks. Walder Frey, the ruler of the twins, is also played by David Bradley, who is the Hogwarts caretaker Argus Filch.

It's no secret that "Game of Thrones" has been casting some big names lately, and fans can expect that Jim Broadbent will not be the last of them.

The seventh season of "Game of Thrones" is scheduled to premiere next year.
