The all-female reboot of the film "Ghostbusters" has finally been given an official release date, shortly after the members of its cast were announced.

The remake, to be written and directed by Paul Feig, is set to be shown in theaters in July next year, with Feig drumming up anticipation as he posted a wordless tweet featuring a photo of the four-women cast.

Hours later, he posted on Twitter:

"In other news, #Ghostbusters will be hitting theaters July 22, 2016. Save the date!" — Paul Feig (@paulfeig) January 28, 2015.

Melissa McCarthy, who was already in talks for one of the leads, has signed for the reboot. Sony, meanwhile, has been negotiating with Kristen Wiig as well as Saturday Night Live stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Both McCarthy and Wiig have worked with Feig before in the director's hugelu popular comedy film "Bridesmaids."

"My favorite thing to do is work with funny women," Feig told Entertainment Weekly in October. "I was like, what if it was an all female cast? If they were all women? Suddenly, my mind kind of exploded: that would be really fun."

Although deals have yet to be hammered out for the actresses, the female quartet are expected to be on the set when Feig starts shooting for the film.

Feig is reported to be targeting a summer shoot in New York.

The film's reboot has endured a long development process, with the original cast initially being sought out to reprise their roles.

Director Ivan Reitman was set to return, and previous cast members Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson have all agreed to return to the big screen. Bill Murray, however, remained cagey. After Ramis passed away last year, Reitman backed out of the project. Feig was then approached to direct the reboot featuring actresses on all of the four lead roles.
