'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life' cast news, spoilers: Carolyn Hennesy joins series as DAR member

"Cougar Town" grad Carolyn Hennesy has joined the cast of the upcoming "Gilmore Girls" reboot in the recurring role of Toni, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Toni, who is described as "upper-crust," is said to be someone who "does not appreciate dissension" and "likes to keep things orderly." Variety, which broke the news, also said that Toni has been a DAR member for many years.

"Gilmore Girls" fans will note that Emily Gilmore (Kelly Bishop), Lorelai's (Lauren Graham) mother and Rory's (Alexis Bledel) grandmother, is also a member of the DAR.

The part of the character's official description saying that she does not like being contradicted might not sit well with the bull-headed Emily. And the fact that the report does not indicate whether Toni and Emily are friends or foes could only point at there being tension between the two in the upcoming reboot.

Prior to her casting in "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," Hennesy, a Daytime Emmy-nominated actress, was in "True Blood," "General Hospital," "The Mindy Project," and "Revenge."

Cinema Blend notes that the arrival of Hennesy's Toni on the scene could bring back an interesting side plot from the original run of "Gilmore Girls." The outlet reports that in the show's sixth season, Rory uncharacteristically took an active part in the group while she was taking a soul-searching break from Yale, her mother, and life in general.

In the show's sixth season, newspaper tycoon Mitchum Huntzberger (Gregg Henry) told Rory, an aspiring reporter, that she wasn't cut out for the industry. Afterwards, Rory left school and moved in with Emily and Richard (the late Edward Herrmann).

While taking refuge with her grandparents, Rory was urged to join the DAR. Surprisingly, Rory became enthusiastically involved in the club, which was made up mostly of the elderly and middle-aged wives of very rich men.

With Toni and the DAR again in the picture, it is anybody's guess if "A Year in the Life" will reveal Rory somehow still working with the group.

"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" debuts Friday, Nov. 25, on Netflix.
