'Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life' news, spoilers: Lauren Graham says late Edward Herrmann would have loved the revival

The upcoming "Gilmore Girls" reboot will be without one of the show's beloved characters when it drops later this year.

Actor/director Edward Herrmann, who played the role of Richard Gilmore, Lorelai's (Lauren Graham) lovable father in "Gilmore Girls," passed away in 2014.

Herrmann's absence in the highly anticipated "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" is a sad thing indeed. But Graham says that the actor would have loved the Netflix revival and that while he won't be in it, the upcoming miniseries will pay tribute to his invaluable work on the cult favorite series.

"He would have loved this [new series]," Graham told People about Herrmann. "His death was just a loss for us personally. It's given the show a new complexity and depth. It's a nice tribute to him."

According to the "Gilmore Girls" star, Richard's passing in "A Year in the Life" will have a huge impact on Lorelai, Rory (Alexis Bledel), and Emily (Kelly Bishop).

"The characters are older now and really are just supporting each other, which I think is a natural progression for a mother and daughter," Graham said.

Bledel also spoke about Herrmann, saying: "He was wonderful to work with. Very generous and such a great presence to have on-set always."

Meanwhile, "Gilmore Girls" fans are reportedly bringing Stars Hollow to life this fall.

According to Entertainment Weekly, a group of "Gilmore Girls" diehards are holding the "Gilmore Girls" Fan Fest in the town of Washington Depot, Connecticut in October. The picturesque small town is reportedly the inspiration behind the fictional Stars Hollow. According to the outlet, "Gilmore Girls" creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino spent some time in the rural town while writing the pilot for the beloved comedy/drama.

The "Gilmore Girls" Fan Fest will feature various "Gilmore"-themed events, screenings, and panel discussions with the cast of "Gilmore Girls." The festival takes place between Oct. 21 and 23. Tickets are available on the event's official website.

"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" premieres Friday, Nov. 25, on Netflix.
