'Gilmore Girls' news: Milo Ventimiglia says Jess will 'fight' for Rory amid her complicated situation
"Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" was supposed to be the ending that never was when the show's original run wrapped up almost a decade ago. It brings back most of the main game players of the show while those who are not able to part take, like a family patriarch, Richard (Edward Hermann) was incorporated in a smart way into the narrative. Still, the ending does not feel quite an ending — chalk it up to the last two words that open up a world of possibility for more stories to tell from the lore.
Spoilers ahead for those who have not yet been able to check out "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life." Proceed with caution.
Rory (Alexis Bledel) is pregnant. That is how creator Amy Sherman-Palladino decided to end things for the youngest Gilmore Girl. What makes it worst is that nothing else is known regarding her pregnancy, which leaves fans discussing the plausible cases and even theorizing what happens to her moving forward. Some cast members from the show are even joining in the speculation wagon in terms of the series's narrative.
While the frontrunner — in terms of who the father of the yet to be born baby — is Logan (Matt Czuchry), there is a resonating backlash in terms of Rory's tryst with him during the Netflix revival. In the world of parallels, the London-based stud who is also engaged to be married to someone else is often compared with Rory's dad, Charles. Sherman-Palladino has already confirmed the thought saying that Logan is indeed a direct mirror of Christopher (David Sutcliffe). That being said, another running theory lurking around online is that of Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) being modeled after Luke (Scott Patterson). If that is the case, with Rory being Lorelai's (Lauren Graham) daughter, shouldn't she be ending up with Jess instead of Logan?
"He's a little stubborn with the diner, with the way that he likes things, but who he is as a man is a very good man and Scott Patterson [who plays Luke], same thing. That was the most fun to be back on set with him," Ventimiglia told Entertainment Weekly when asked about his thoughts on the particular theory.
In the middle of the conversation, the "This Is Us" actor also threw away a great what-if that could tie everything together."Let's think of it in terms of who is Amy going to set up to fight for Rory's affection," he started explaining his own take on the complex situation. "Will it be she's carrying Logan's child and Jess is going to fight for her because Logan's going to be schmucky, or is Logan, the rich guy, going to fight for her and Jess is going to be schmucky? I don't know. I'm thinking it's Logan's kid and Jess is going to fight for her."
It is safe to say that at this point, there is not a good chance that fans will find out a resolution to all these theories and one giant cliffhanger left by "Gilmore Girls." Still, it makes for good conversation while the waiting game goes on regarding more episodes of the family drama.
