Google Nexus 2016 release date, specs news: Pixel and Pixel XL expected to arrive late this year?

Now that Apple has already dropped its biggest release this year, other manufacturers are gearing up for its late of the year launching. According to reports, Google is already planning on unveiling its next Google Nexus device. Dubbed as Google Nexus 2016, new reports suggest that the handset will come in two models—the Pixel and Pixel XL. According to reports Google and HTC have collaborated to manufacture a smartphone that would challenge the new iPhone 7 as the best handset in the market today.

According to Business Insider, Google is said to be scrapping its Nexus brand and launch a new Pixel flagship model. The publication suggests that the 2016 Google Nexus device will be packed with impressive features and advanced specifications under the hood. The goal is to produce the fastest smartphone ever built.

New reports have emerged saying that the two smartphones will differ in sizes among others. There are speculations suggesting that Google Pixel will come with a smaller screen at 5.0 inches, while the Pixel XL will arrive with 5.5-inch display. Although Google has yet to provide the official details of its development and release for Pixel and Pixel XL, rumors are circulating that both devices will run on a Snapdragon 821 from Qualcomm.

Other features of the device include a 12 MP rear camera paired with an 8 MP front-facing shooter. The Pixel XL is said to support 2K resolution, while the Pixel will carry a regular 1080p display. Unlike Apple's iPhone 7, Google Nexus 2016 devices will retain the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack.

The two devices will also carry a 3450-mAh battery and a 32-GB storage capacity. No reports have surfaced as of the moment suggesting if both smartphones will have an expandable storage through microSD.

The new Pixel and Pixel XL are expected to run on Google's new mobile operating system, the Android 7.0 Nougat.
