Google Nexus 6 Release Date: Google to Announce the Death of Nexus?
Having released the Nexus 5 in October 2013, users are speculating a release for the Nexus 6 now that we are nearing the end of 2014.
Google has not announced an official release for the Nexus 6 but based on Google's previous release dates for its phones, users are speculating that if the phone is ever to be released it should be coming soon.
The previous release dates for the Nexus models were January 2010 for the Nexus One, December 2010 for the Nexus S, November 2011 for the Galaxy Nexus and November 2012 for the Nexus 4.
The possibility of a new Nexus actually being sold in the market this year is not guaranteed by any means though, and some users are even speculating that Google will close down its Nexus line and will not even be releasing a Nexus 6.
For a company generating $15 billion in sales on average, however, a surrender is unlikely.
Dave Burke, Android Engineering Head in an interview with ReadWrite said that Google is still 'invested in Nexus'.
"When we are working, there are sort of two outputs. We're building a Nexus device and we're building the open source code", Burke said.
"There is no way you can build the open source code without the phone or tablet or whatever you are building. You have to live and breathe the code you are developing", he added.
If the release does happen, users are expecting a significant improvement on the battery, which only had a 2,300 mAh capacity for the Nexus 5. The battery power was considered as one of the phone's weakest points.
The price, on the other hand, was one of its strongest points - sold only at $349 and $499, the high-end smartphone had a strong edge because of its cheap price, compared to last year's LG Optimus G, HTC One mini, HTC Windows Phone 8X, Galaxy S III and iPhone 4S .
