'Goosebumps 2' release date, latest news: Sony Pictures announces release date for 'Goosebumps' sequel
As reported by Coming Soon, director Rob Letterman and screenwriter Darren Lemke, who worked on the first "Goosebumps" movie, will be returning for its film sequel. Debora Forte and Neal H. Moritz are also set to come back as the sequel's producers.
Hollywood actor and comedian Jack Black is expected to be reprising his role as one of the upcoming film's lead actors. However, no other cast members have been announced to appear in "Goosebumps 2" yet.
The first "Goosebumps" movie is based on Scholastic's worldwide best-selling book series (with more than 400 million copies in print), and starred Black ("School of Rock") as "Goosebumps author R.L. Stine. The cast included actors Dylan Minnette ("Prisoners"), Ryan Lee ("Super 8"), and Odeya Rush ("The Giver").
In the first "Goosebumps" film, Zach (Minnette) unintentionally let loose magical monsters on the town, all of which originated from the books written by Stine. With time running out, he had to team up with his newfound friend Champ (Lee), Hannah (Rush), and Stine himself to track down the monsters and send them back to where they came from.
Screenwriting team Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski ("The People v OJ Simpson") wrote the story for the original horror film, while Lemke was assigned to write its screenplay.
The original "Goosebumps" movie, which was given a PG rating despite being a horror movie, earned $156.7 million worldwide against a $58 million budget. The film also reached the top of the sales charts when it was released on home video.
The entire "Goosebumps" horror book series has 62 published books. Hence, the filmmakers for the upcoming movie sequel have plenty of material to review and utilize in creating a good story for "Goosebumps 2."
"Goosebumps 2" is slated for release on Jan. 26, 2018.
