It looks like the Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel) is taking center stage in the upcoming episode of "Gotham." A new promo has been released for episode 7 which is titled "Red Queen." Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) gets drugged by the Hatter and is forced to undergo a series of hallucinations involving his past, present and future.

The clip also gives audiences a look at the Hatter's henchmen. Comic book fans can remember that the Mad Hatter has an unhealthy obsession with Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland," and he does his best to surround himself with elements from that story. The two henchmen could likely be Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee, the Hatter's henchmen in the comics.

The Hatter's introduction in the season also presented him as a hypnotist, so it's likely that he knows how to mess with people's heads. In the promo, he uses a drug that makes Gordon hallucinate. Interestingly enough, that character trait is more in line with Batman-villain Scarecrow aka Jonathan Crane. Scarecrow in the comics is obsessed with fear, and he often uses drugs that let his victims hallucinate and see all of their worst fears.

In the series, Jonathan Crane (Charlie Tahan) is introduced alongside his father Gerald (Julian Sands) who is actually responsible for creating the fear toxin. Jonathan's arc ends with him being suspended in a permanent state of terror, seeing his worst fear — a scarecrow — every waking hour.

There aren't any hints that the Hatter got his toxin from Crane, but it would be an interesting nod to the character. The Hatter has used hypnotism and mind control before but not drugs.

To promote the upcoming episode, 19 high-res stills of the episode have been leaked. It looks like the episode also touches on the dynamic between the Riddler (Cory Michael Smith) and the Penguin (Robin Taylor).

The next episode of "Gotham," "Red Queen," airs on Halloween Monday, Oct. 31, at 8 p.m. EDT on FOX.
