'Gotham' season 3 air date, plot updates: Possible first look at Killer Croc
The third season of "Gotham" is well underway, and a new promo for the show gives audiences another look at the new Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha) and a possible first look at a prototype Killer Croc.
Last month, showrunner John Stevens said during the Television Critics Association Press Tour that the upcoming season would feature forerunners for classic characters like Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, and Solomon Grundy, and the promo seemed to confirm his statement.
Stevens said: "A lot of those characters, because they're in 'Suicide Squad,' we're not going to be seeing them this season. We will be seeing proto-versions of some of those characters; we'll see a proto-Killer Croc version. And we'll be seeing a character — perhaps not this season, but in times to come — who can be a forerunner for Harley Quinn."
The executive producer also confirmed that Killer Croc and Solomon Grundy will be connected to the Indian Hill experiments done by Hugo Strange (BD Wong). The sudden aging of Poison Ivy is also attributed to a virus, which is presumably also connected to Strange, that causes people to age rapidly. This virus is why viewers would see Poison Ivy grown up as an adult in season 3 despite being depicted as a child in the first season.
This upcoming season will also feature the ancient organization called the Court of Owls that has been manipulating Gotham from behind the scenes for generations. The comics had the Court have control over super-powered individuals known as Talons who were "put to sleep" until they were awakened to do any missions that the Court would assign to them. It is yet to be known how the Court of Owls will be adapted in this version of the "Batman" lore.
"Gotham" season 3 is scheduled to premiere on Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
