For the Green Bay Packers and their fans, losing Jordy Nelson last year was a big blow, but things are looking good at the moment as it seems he is ready to start working out.

According to the Packers Blog, Nelson is ready to start his first full workout with the team.

However, this is as far as it can go at the moment, with head coach Mike McCarthy still remaining non-committal on Nelson's status.

Talking to reporters, McCarthy claimed: "Then we'll kind of take it from there. But first things first."

He was also questioned on whether Nelson and quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be playing together in the pre-season, with McCarthy believing that the answer should present itself down the road.

At the moment, reports claim that the two will be involved in some one-on-one training sessions. But when it comes to a full game on the field, they may have to wait until the season opener for that to happen.

Meanwhile, Rodgers may be needed in the Packers' preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Different reports have surfaced, backing up rumors claiming that Brett Hundley re-injured his ankle and is not likely to play, giving rise to Rodgers taking the field against the Niners.

This will come as a welcome opportunity for the two-time MVP as he is getting older and needs a little more work, which should be perfect with the preseason game.

However, it is expected that Rodgers will only play this game and will not be in the preseason finale against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Rodgers also did not play in the first two games and should use this chance to be ready for the start of the season.

Associate head coach Tom Clements believes that Rodgers could use the game to help him get back to shape, saying: "The preseason is obviously different than practice. Things move fast, faster. Once the season starts, they move even faster. You get to the playoffs, and they move even faster. Regardless I think of how long you've been around, you need a little bit of work before the season starts."
