'Grey's Anatomy' Season 11 Spoilers, Plot Rumors: Meredith and Derek Issue; April And Jackson Face Abortion Question
"Grey's Anatomy," which is currently in its 11th season on ABC, has a number of plots moving ahead simultaneously.
One major plot surrounds the central figure of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) as she learns how to cope with the absence of Derek (Patrick Dempsey) who has gone to Washington.
Another plot revolves around April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) as they face the question on whether or not they will go ahead with an abortion after they learned that their child has the brittle bone disease or osteogenesis inperfecta.
The last episode that aired, titled "The Bed's Too Big Without You," saw April and Jackson discussing what they should do if the test results show that their unborn child has type 3 of the disease, which could mean surgery after surgery. If the child has type 2, it could die after it is born, if it manages to survive the birthing.
This question about aborting her child is testing April's faith in God. During the last episode, it came to forefront once again when her mother noted that the discussion about the baby's fate was not between Jackson and April but rather between April and God.
Sara Drew, who was pregnant in real life during the shooting of the 11th season, recently stated in an interview that she gave birth to her daughter a few hours after filming the birthing scene in "Grey's Anatomy." This gave away the spoiler that the couple would not go ahead with the abortion and that April would have her baby.
As for Meredith, loneliness awaits since Derek and Christina are no longer around. This presumably will be a major factor in the 11th season. Show creator Shonda Rhimes said there will be a lot of focus on Meredith as "she is very much going to be tested by what happens, as she doesn't have Derek and Cristina's familiar support, so this will be about her coming into her own, as a person and as a surgeon."
