'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 air date, spoilers: Callie Torres leaves Grey Sloan; next season to premiere in late September?

Fans could say that "Grey's Anatomy" season 12 finale is, in most parts, pretty satisfying. The show did manage to tie up some loose ends and answer some lingering questions this season while leaving viewers with enough reasons to anxiously wait for the next.

After the eventful finale episode, titled "Family Affair," viewers might wonder which storyline would be highlighted to introduce season 13. The season 12 ender showed how some characters were able to get their supposedly happy endings while others did not get as much luck. Owen (Kevin McKidd) and Amelia (Caterina Scorsone), who have experienced major bumps in their journey to wedded bliss, eventually got hitched. It is likely that the season 13 opener will see the couple celebrating and adjusting to their new life as husband and wife.

April (Sarah Drew)and Jackson (Jesse Williams)are expected to get closer in the next season as they welcome and celebrate the arrival of their baby into their lives. Both are keen to raising their child together, but co-parenting can make or break their already fragile relationship. Will they or will they not make it in the end?

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 finale also showed Nathan (Martin Henderson) flashing a victorious smile at Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) during the wedding, but Maggie (Kelly McCreary) mistakenly thought it was intended for her. She admitted to Meredith that she really likes the man and even went on to say that the feeling must be mutual. Does this indicate a budding love triangle in the next season? If so, it would inevitably put a strain on Meredith and Maggie's sisterhood. Yet, it would also be an interesting storyline to explore for Meredith, at least in the romance department, as she tries to come to terms with Derek's (Patrick Dempsey) death.

Meanwhile, Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) have no more chance of reconciling as Callie has decided to leave Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. Ramirez has recently been confirmed to not be returning in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. Thus, it means Callie would most likely go far away, but it might be possible that she would take her and Arizona's daughter Sofia along with her. As TVLine noted, Arizona seemed to be thinking of giving up the child for Callie and altering their custody arrangement, one that would give her ex "all summer and every other school year."

ABC has yet to announce the premiere date of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13. Reports say that the hit medical drama is likely to return in late September, either on Sept. 22 or Sept. 29, based on the previous seasons' scheduling.
