Alex (Chambers) and Jo (Luddington) in "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 promo still | ABC

What came as a surprise for Alex (Justin Chambers) regarding Jo's reveal about her true identity is arguably not as surprising to viewers as to him. The runaway wife has been sitting on her secret for quite sometime now, pondering on what her next plan of action will be. Needless to say, details about her real persona has been very scant to the point that viewers just know that she is living a life full of lies to hide from her abusive husband. As it turns out, the audience is not alone in this guessing game as Camilla Luddington admits that even she does not know what her "Grey's Anatomy" character's real name is.

The main hook of Jo's character is her mysterious background with occasional puzzle pieces dropping throughout each episode of "Grey's Anatomy." But the overall picture is still missing a lot elements keeping it still very vague. In an exclusive sit-down with Entertainment Weekly, Luddington gets candid about being also eager to know more about the role that she plays in the Shonda Rhimes series.

"I still don't know her name!" she exclaimed. "I keep waiting for her to say it. If Alex [Justin Chambers] asks, I think he'd be the one person she'd tell, so I wish he did."

Furthermore, the actress also shares her self-made speculations on the character including the question of how the Grey Sloan doctor came up with "Jo" as her alias name.

"I'm also super curious as to why she picked 'Jo' for her new name," Luddington pondered. "Was there significance for her? I like to think she grew up reading Little Women and loved Jo March, who is one of my favorite headstrong female characters, and took it from that. But that's just me fantasizing about the reason why. I'm excited for the episode that really answers it all."

Aside from the massive mystery that is shrouding Jo's past, her future is also bleak as of the moment. "Grey's Anatomy's" season 13 winter finale saw her leaving the premises of the hospital with what appears to be a travel bag in tow. Her bleak future ties up with that of Alex's as the latter ultimately decides whether to take the deal of a two-year imprisonment or continue fighting via a trial.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 14 is tipped to air new episodes starting Jan. 19 on ABC.
