Now that "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" has debuted with over $290 million, there's no longer any doubt that the "Star Wars" franchise can survive without having a Skywalker as one of the main characters. Next in line is the "Han Solo" spinoff film. The cast and crew of the project are going to feel a lot of pressure, but Donald Glover, the actor portraying young Lando Calrissian, is planning to play it cool.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Glover shared his approach to playing one of the slickest characters in the franchise.

"It was the first action figure I ever had. I remember my dad giving it to me ... I remember Lando really well. He was like the only black guy in space. And he was the cool one. I just realized, he still has to be cool. And cool is an interesting thing. It changes."

"Cool changes depending on the perspective. Also, it's fun because [the Han Solo movie is set] before [Empire Strikes Back], so he's still figuring it out a little bit, which is fun," he added.

Well, the perception of cool may have changed a lot since Billy Dee Williams played Lando in the '80s, but Glover should know what to do with the character since he grew up watching him.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told journalist Lizo Mzimba that production for the "Han Solo" spinoff movie will begin in February. "The Lego Movie" directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord will be helming the film, while veteran "Star Wars" screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan and his son, Jon Kasdan, will write the script.

Besides Glover, the film will also star Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and Emilia Clarke in an unspecified role. Chewbacca will also appear in the film.

The "Han Solo" spinoff film is scheduled to premiere on May 25, 2018.
