The long wait is finally over for "Hannibal" fans. The show's creator Bryan Fuller has announced that Hannibal Lecter will be back for Season 3 on June 4.

In a tweet he posted last March 6, Fuller wrote: "GET YOUR MOTOR RUNNIN' #HannibalReturnsJune4." He received 1,706 retweets from his over 17,000 followers.

This means that "Hannibal" Season 3 will be moving back to Thursday nights and will be leading into the new NBC series "Aquarius," which will start on May 28.

For its Season 3 premiere, "Hannibal" will occupy the 9 p.m. ET on June 4 before being aired at 10 p.m. ET during the following Thursdays, Fansided clarified.

"What this means is that the series may be airing in the summer months, where anything can happen in terms of ratings, but the date of airing is more ideal than it otherwise may have been," Fansided said.

"Friday nights are hard nights to get a show to stick, and 'Hannibal' survived longer than many thought it would in that time slot," it added.

Picking up after the shocking events of the finale, Mads Mikkelsen's Hannibal is now on the run in Europe, accompanied by his psychiatrist Bedelia played by Gillian Anderson, leading to more psychological cat-and-mouse games with Hugh Dancy's Will.

In its second season last spring, "Hannibal" averaged a 1.4 million rating in adults aged 18-49 and 3.7 million viewers overall, Variety reported.

Fuller's announcement comes as a relief to anxious fans who had been worrying that "Hannibal" Season 3 could be pushed back to the summer months of the television season.

There had also been fears that the show would be dropped in the dead zone of June or July.

NBC is expected to announce additional summer programming at a later time, Variety reported.
