'Hannibal' season 4 revival news: Thriller drama may return in 'four or five years,' according to star Hugh Dancy
Fans may be hungry for more "Hannibal," but a major cast member recently revealed that a revival of the hit psychological thriller-horror series might not happen anytime soon.
Hugh Dancy — who plays Will Graham in the drama — was at the Television Critics Association winter press tour where he shared his thoughts on the show's possible return. Speaking with TV Line, Dancy said he thinks everyone in the show is willing to do another round of new episodes. However, he stressed that he doesn't see it happening in the near future.
"My feeling is that, knock on wood, if it came around again, it wouldn't be a bad thing for it to be four or five years later," he stated, adding, "That might actually be kind of interesting. How weird would that be, on a personal level, to find yourself back with those people? 'So... where did we leave off?'"
In addition, Dancy admitted that he has no clear answer on when his or his costars' schedules might align to make season 4 possible. Schedules aren't the only complication the show has to deal with because once Fuller becomes free to write the storyline, he'll have to examine which "Hannibal" stories are legally available. Dancy went on to share a possible plot the next season could delve into if it ever happens. "I think there are specific elements of 'Silence of the Lambs' that could be explored between Will and Hannibal, very interestingly," he continued.
Developed by Bryan Fuller, "Hannibal" is inspired by characters and elements from Thomas Harris' novels "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon." The series explores the relationship between FBI special investigator Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen), a forensic psychiatrist who later becomes Graham's most cunning enemy.
The previous seasons of "Hannibal" are currently available for streaming via Amazon Video.
