'Harry Potter' news: J.K. Rowling to donate all royalties of 'Fantastic Beasts' to charity Comic Relief

Author J.K. Rowling, best known for writing the "Harry Potter" series, has just announced that she will be donating all of the proceeds of the updated version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" to charity.

The announcement was made by Rowling on Twitter. All her author royalties will go to Comic Relief for Red Nose Day. Furthermore, a percentage of the UK and international sales of the printed and digital copies of the book will also be donated to charity.

The updated version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" comes with new content, including a foreword from Newt Scamander, six new beasts, new illustrations from Tomislav Tomic, and a new cover design by Olly Moss, the artist who was also responsible for the new covers of the "Harry Potter" novels.

An audiobook version, voiced by Eddie Redmayne, who played Newt Scamander in the film version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," was also recently released. The audiobook can be purchased on Pottermore, with proceeds also going to charity.

It can be recalled that the original version of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," as well as "Quidditch Through the Ages," were written by Rowling and published by Scholastic Inc. in 2001, with the intention of having all proceeds go to Comic Relief to give aid to needy children in the poorest countries in the world. The two publications generated £17 million, according to Digital Spy.

Meanwhile, Rowling also recently announced that there will be five movies in the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" series. Unlike "Harry Potter," the films will not be based on novels. Instead, Rowling will produce the screenplays for the films. The second film is expected to be released on Nov. 16, 2018, while the third one is targeted to premiere in November 2020.
