'Hawaii Five-0' 150th episode spoilers: Alex O'Loughlin says closure with ex is important for his character
After almost a year of speculating on Steve McGarrett's (Alex O'Loughlin) relationship with his former lover, Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth), viewers finally had their answer in the 150th episode of CBS' "Hawaii Five-0."
In this particular episode, McGarrett was on a dinner date with Lynn Downey (Sarah Carter) when Rollins intruded to reveal something important. Rollins rushed to where McGarrett was to tell him that his mother, Doris McGarrett (Christine Lahti), had been held captive at a CIA black site in Morocco.
Rollins, who was initially unaware that Downey had been with McGarrett, indulged in small talk with the Five-0's date. Somehow their conversation ended up on the events which occurred last season, before Rollins left. Downey accidentally revealed that McGarrett had planned on proposing to her when she decided to leave him.
In an interview with TV Line, O'Loughlin told the publication that the former couple's conversation was very important to his character. He said, "I think it's an important piece of information. I mean, [wanting to know] out of curiosity is one reason, but also, I think he wants to hear her say, It wasn't you, you weren't the problem. I was the problem."
Furthermore, in order for his character to get into a serious relationship in the near future, he must have closure with his ex. And indeed, the 150th episode of the show brought some closure to the former couple's relationship. O'Loughlin made it pretty clear to TV Line that Rollins wasn't "the one who got away." According to the actor, Rollins was "the one who was not meant to be."
When the 150th episode aired on Friday, "Hawaii Five-0" garnered a 1.2 in adult viewership from 18-49. These were viewers who watched the show when it launched. The ratings were up by +0.2 from last week's viewership, which makes the episode the highest viewed CBS program on a Friday night.
