'Hawaii Five-0' season 7 air date, spoilers news update: Danny skips 150th episode; Doris and Catherine return

Longtime fans of "Hawaii Five-0" sure have a lot to look forward to when CBS' long-running police procedural series returns for its seventh season. And the one currently making the most buzz is Danny Williams (Scott Caan) and his confirmed absence in the show's milestone 150th episode.

According to Movie News Guide, it was executive producer Peter Lenkov himself who told fans via Twitter that Caan will not be appearing in episode 150, which will be the upcoming season's seventh episode. This is said to be due to an irreversible scheduling conflict.

Titled, "Ka makuahine a me ke keikikane" ("Mother and Son"), the episode will reportedly feature the return of Doris McGarrett (Christine Lahti) and Catherine Rollins (Michelle Borth). Additionally, the upcoming appearance of Wo Fat's father has also been hinted. All of these characters coming together seemed to point to an especially complicated episode for series main protagonist Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin). It does not help that his partner and most trusted ally, Danny, will apparently not be around to keep him grounded.

The episode will also feature Chin Ho Kelly's (Daniel Dae Kim) relationship with Sara Diaz (Londyn Silzer), daughter of the late Gabriel Waincroft (Christopher Sean) and Chin's niece by marriage. Chin has previously shown reluctance to take responsibility for Sara after both of her parents died on separate occasions but the 150th episode promises to show a heartwarming development in the relationship between uncle and niece.

On the other hand, Caan may not be present in episode 150 but he will definitely be around when "Hawaii Five-0" returns for its seventh season. CBS has previously released the official synopsis for the upcoming season's first episode titled, "Makaukau 'ce e Pa'ani?" ("Ready to Play?"), which will pit the Five-0 Task Force against a Dexter-type serial killer who preys on other serial killers.

The episode promises to feature an intense cat-and-mouse chase through the streets of Hawaii and all the way up to its lofty rooftops, as seen on this sneak peak released by CBS. The chase will be so incredible that fans would have to see it to believe it.

The episode also plays on the bromance between the two main characters, wherein Steve says, "I love you," and Danny snarks, "You're an idiot." This is now the familiar type of conversation that the two of them share whenever they're about to embark on or have just survived a life-threatening mission.

"Hawaii Five-0" season 7 premieres on Friday, Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS.
