'High School Musical 4' spoilers, cast news: Zac Efron expected to feature in new movie

Despite the reports that Zac Efron will reprise his role as Troy Bolton in "High School Musical 4" for one last time, fans might not want to get their hopes up.

Back in May of this year, Efron implied in an interview with Men's Fitness that his stint in the Disney franchise is something that he would rather forget.

Having done a lot of projects after "High School Musical," the actor hopes that he will be known more than just his "HSM" character Troy Bolton.

"I step back and look at myself and I still want to kick that guy's ass sometimes. Like, f—k that guy," the actor said of his younger self.

"He's done some kind of cool things with some cool people, he did that one thing [Neighbors] that was funny, but I mean he's still just that f—king kid from High School Musical," he continued.

It appears that Efron does not want his career to be defined by his role in the Disney movies, which would mean that an appearance in "High School Musical 4" is highly unlikely.

He even said a few years back this year that his Disney fame is not something he is proud of, saying "I try not to look at all of it. You can't enjoy or celebrate it... The face on the lunchbox and s—t, you can't share that with your friends."

"High School Musical 4" rumors have it that Efron will be back along with Vanessa Hudgens, who played his character's love interest, Gabriella Montez, in the film.

Efron and Hudgens were actually a couple and the former's absence in the 10th-anniversary celebration of "High School Musical" early this year is reportedly about him trying to avoid his ex-girlfriend.

Despite this, Efron still muses over his "High School Musical" days on Instagram by sharing throwback photos of him and his cast mates and hanging out with them as well.

However, this would not likely be lead to an appearance on "High School Musical 4." With all that said, Troy will unlikely be back in East High anytime soon.
