Showtime has renewed "Homeland" and "The Affair" for their fifth and second seasons, respectively. The new seasons will air on 2015. Both are still currently airing during Saturday nights.

The renewal is not a surprise for fans as both are doing quite well in terms of viewership. "The Affair" averages 3.9 million weekly viewers while "Homeland" is averaging 1.61 million viewers.

David Nevins, president of the Showtime Networks, said Homeland's fourth season "has brilliantly reinvented itself" and that its success is undeniable.

The same is true for "The Affair." He added that both series are loved by viewers, as well as "embraced, dissected and much debated week after week."

Nevins is convinced that the two shows will attract a bigger audience. "We're excited to see more from these complex shows in 2015," he said.

"Homeland" stars Claire Danes, who plays the role of Carrie Mathison, a CIA case officer with a bipolar condition who works for the Counterterrorism Center. The storyline is based on the Israeli series "Hatufim" (Prisoners of War) by Gideon Raff.

"The Affair," on the other hand, stars Dominic West (Noah Solloway), Maura Tierney (Helen Solloway), Ruth Wilson (Alison Lockhart), Julia Goldani Telles (Whitney Solloway) and Joshua Jackson (Cole Lockhart). The storyline revolves around the extramarital relationship between Alison Lockhart, a young waitress, and Noah Solloway, a school teacher in New York who has four children.
