Carrie (Claire Danes) gets in trouble when she follows a lead. Meanwhile, could Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) be a representation of Hillary Clinton?

On the next episode of "Homeland" season 6, titled "The Return," Carrie gets herself into a risky situation by following a lead.

"Carrie follows a lead. Saul (Mandy Patinkin) meets an old friend. Keane takes a stand," the synopsis from Showtime reads. As seen from the episode promo, Carrie follows the man who has been trailing her, but it appears that she gets herself into a complicated situation as the man traps the both of them inside a house.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Keane might be a representation of Hillary Clinton.

According to executive producer Alex Gansa, Keane was never intended to be a Clinton proxy. However, the series creator also shared that when President Donald Trump won the 2016 elections, he was surprised at the very least.

"My first reaction was, 'Oh my god, we are now counterfactual to the point of being irrelevant.' It took a while to dig ourselves out of that feeling. We just came back to the fact that 'Homeland,' after all, is fiction. And in the past, it's been world events that have caught up with the show. So we just stuck to our guns," Gansa explained to The Hollywood Reporter.

Although "Homeland" doesn't follow current events anymore, Gansa added that the show is always a "parallel reality" and that it still follows what's happening in the world.

In terms of Keane being similar to Hillary Clinton, Gansa said that he really only focused on making the president-elect have ideas that outrage the common people and more importantly, the intelligence community.

Gansa made sure that "Homeland" has its own president-elect that embodies very strong ideas in leading the country and how intelligence agencies should be handled.

"Homeland" season 6 airs every Sunday on Showtime.
