Chances of a normal life would have to be put on the backburner, as it seems Carrie Mathison has her work cut out for her when Showtime's "Homeland" season 6 returns to the small screen.

While Carrie tries to lead a normal life in New York City with her daughter Frannie in tow, America would be subjected to a tense time as it prepares to usher in the first female commander-in-chief. "House of Cards" actress Elizabeth Marvel has been tapped to play the female POTUS, Elizabeth Keane.

Deadline described the character as "a former junior Senator from New York. Bright, charming and lively, Keane can be blunt; a natural politician." Some can't help but notice from the description the seeming parallelism between the fictional female POTUS and Democratic presidential candidate and former US First Lady Hillary Clinton, who was once a U.S. senator, too.

There are rumors that Elizabeth Keane is a Democrat, too, underscoring the possibility that she is, indeed, patterned after Clinton. Nevertheless, Claire Danes, who plays Carrie on the series, was quick to dismiss it in an interview back in June. She said the nation's first female POTUS is not a representation of Clinton.

The premise of "Homeland" season 6 is the period in which the power of America transitions from one hand to another. Executive producer Alex Gansa said it would take place from the time a new president is elected in November up to the president-elect's inauguration in January.

"There is this strange period in America where there are 72 days when it's not exactly clear who's in charge, and there is a new president that needs to be educated on what it means to be president," Gansa told Entertainment Weekly.

He likewise stated that it would be "a dangerous time in [America's] democracy," and in Danes' interview, she said the female POTUS would be "challenging norms and is a little threatening for that reason." She did say her character and the president would get along well. Still, Keane's tenacity could land her at the forefront of a huge battle, with everyone, more so Carrie, doing everything in her power to protect her.

Stay tuned for more updates on "Homeland" season 6, which is expected to premiere in January 2017.
