iMac 2017 release date, specs news: new desktop to wait for Kaby Lake's release?
After Apple Inc. opted to pass on the opportunity to release a new iMac for the current year, speculations claim that the Cupertino-based tech giant is planning to release an iMac 2017 instead.
The tech firm last came out with a new iMac line back in Oct. 2015 when it released the popular desktop line that was equipped with Intel Skylake chipsets and AMD graphics to support 5K Retina displays for its 27-inch models. On the other hand, the 21.5-inch iMacs featured Broadwell chips and 4K Retina displays upon release.
But aside from the mentioned changes, the slim design of the current-generation iMacs has only a few improvements since it also has the same look as the iMacs that were released in Nov. 2012.
Meanwhile, current reports claim that the next-generation Apple desktop product lines could be equipped with the Intel Kaby Lake Core i7-7700K upon release.
According to reports, the 7h-generation chipset from Intel will feature a fast-paced 4.2 GHz or more, which could make the next iMac line perform better than the last one.
But if Apple will use the Intel Kaby Lake processors in the rumored iMac 2017, the tech firm might have to wait a little longer for the processor's release since Intel has yet to deliver its next powerful chipsets. This could mean that the Apple desktops will not be released in the early months of the upcoming year.
On the other hand, several reports claim that if Apple wants to release the next iMacs in early 2017, it might have to use Intel 10-core Xeon E7 as a replacement for the Kaby Lake.
Other speculated specs for the rumored iMac 2017 include the possibility of a 5K graphics display, 16 GB of random-access memory (RAM) with a full flash storage or a bigger 32 GB RAM with 2 TB Fusion drive.
However, Apple has yet to talk about the details of the rumored iMac 2017.
